Questions about Reiki
If Reiki is new to you, it's completely normal to have questions. Here are a few of the things people often wonder about before their first session.
-
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice that uses light touch or hands held just above the body.
During a session, you simply get to settle in and rest while I move through a series of hand placements.
You don't need to meditate, clear your mind, or do anything in particular. It's simply a little space to slow down and notice what you experience.
-
Everyone experiences Reiki a little differently.
You might notice warmth, tingling, heaviness, a sense of relaxation, or a quieter mind. You might notice something completely different — or very little at all.
There's no "right" way to experience Reiki, and what you notice can even change from one session to the next.
-
Not at all.
You don't need to understand energy work or have any particular spiritual beliefs to come for a Reiki session.
Curiosity is enough. You can simply settle in, experience the session, and decide for yourself what you make of it.
-
That's completely okay.
Some people notice a lot during Reiki, while others simply feel relaxed or don't notice much happening at all.
Not feeling warmth, tingling, energy moving, or anything else doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. There's nothing you need to make happen during your session.
-
We'll start with a few minutes to talk about what brought you in and anything you'd like me to know.
You'll then settle onto the treatment table fully clothed, with a pillow and blankets available for comfort. During the session, I'll move gently through a series of Reiki hand placements while you rest.
When we're finished, we'll take a little time to talk about your experience and anything you noticed.
-
Reiki can be offered with light touch or with my hands held just above your body.
Your comfort matters, and we can talk about your preferences before we begin. You're also welcome to change your mind at any point during the session.
-
Yes. You'll remain fully clothed for the entire session.
I recommend wearing something comfortable that you can easily relax in. You'll remove your shoes before settling onto the treatment table, and blankets and a pillow are available.
-
That's okay — you don't need to be perfectly still, completely relaxed, or have a quiet mind for Reiki.
You can shift positions, adjust your blanket, scratch an itch, or let me know if you need something. If lying on the treatment table isn't comfortable for you, let me know and we can talk about what might work better.
There is no performing and no doing it "right."
-
Both sessions offer the same gentle Reiki experience.
A 45-minute session is a lovely option if you'd like some time to settle, receive Reiki, and reconnect without needing a full hour.
A 60-minute session gives us a little more spaciousness — more time to settle in, receive Reiki, and move through the session without feeling rushed.
If it's your first time and you're unsure which to choose, either is completely okay.
-
There isn't much you need to do to prepare. Wear something comfortable and arrive as you are.
Afterward, you may want to give yourself a little time before jumping straight back into a busy day. Have some water, notice how you're feeling, and let the experience settle in.
There aren't any special rules or rituals you need to follow.
-
No. Reiki is a complementary wellness practice and isn't a replacement for medical treatment, mental health care, medication, or advice from your healthcare provider.
It can simply be one part of how you choose to care for yourself.
